Steven Smith, DVM
Hospital Director

Steven Smith

Dr. Steven Smith is the Hospital Director of Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Smith  joined the Canandaigua medical team in 2008, and prior to that he practiced medicine as an Associate Veterinarian at Pittsford Animal Hospital from 2005 to 2008.

A native of Pittsburgh, Dr. Smith attended Hobart College and received his Bachelor's Degree in Biology in 1998. He continued his education at the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine and he was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. Surgery, dentistry, wellness and preventive medicine are among his many professional interests.

Dr. Smith and his wife Alexis, who is also a veterinarian, have four children: Paige, Maddox, Heidi and Nola. Their four-legged family members include two dogs and one cat. In his spare time, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with family and friends, working out, training his dogs, and hunting.

Amanda Jarnot, BSc/BVMS

Amanda Jarnot

Dr. Amanda Jarnot (formerly Dr. James) is an associate veterinarian at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital. Originally from Cicero, NY, she graduated from Murdoch University in Perth, Australia with her BSc/BVMS in 2016.

Prior to attending veterinary school, Dr. James graduated from Medaille College with a BD in veterinary technology in 2011. Her professional interests include surgery and small animal medicine.

In her free time, she enjoys CrossFit and spending time with her dog. Dr. James is also passionate about football, as she was raised a New England Patriots fan. 

Allison Tuchrello, DVM

Allison Tuchrello

Dr. Tuchrello grew up in Livonia, NY. She attended SUNY Geneseo, where she graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University and was named valedictorian of her graduating class.

While in veterinary school, she completed externships at Perry Veterinary Clinic, People for Animals and Cornell University Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Tuchrello’s professional interests include dentistry and surgery.

She enjoys horseback riding, boating on the Finger Lakes, running and playing video games in her free time.

Michael Taylor
Licensed Veterinary Technician & Animal Care Assistant Supervisor

Michael Taylor

Michael is the supervisor of the Licensed Veterinary Technicians and the Animal Care Assistants at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital, where he’s worked since 2008. Before he began his career in the animal-care industry, he received his associate’s degree in veterinary technology from SUNY Alfred State College.

He enjoys working at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital because of the family-oriented and professional atmosphere, as well as the vast knowledge and experience all of the employees have to offer.

Michael has three dogs and three cats. In his free time, he enjoys hiking with his dogs, hunting, fishing, working on cars, and DIY projects. One day he aspires to own a 56' or 57' Chevy Belair and/or a 67' Pontiac. 

Cassandra P.
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Cassandra P.

Raised in Livonia, NY, Cassandra is a Licensed Veterinary Technician that has worked at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2008.

Cassandra enjoys working at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital because it allows her the opportunity to advocate for the needs of companion animals while building meaningful relationships with clients and their pets. 

In her free time, Cassandra enjoys archery, canning, gardening, hunting, and attending her son’s sporting events. Cassandra shares her home with her husband and son, as well as their two dogs, four cats, and one fish. 

Jessica Casellas
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Jessica grew up right here in Canandaigua, and has been working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2004. 

Jessica is the leader of the feral cat program at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital, and loves that she can follow her dream of helping feral cats through this position. She also enjoys working with the kind-hearted clients and dedicated staff at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital. 

Jessica is a member of the New York State Association of Veterinary Technicians and the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America Additionally, Jessica is a Feral Cat liaison, as well as an OSHA Coordinator. In her free time, she enjoys walking dogs, reading, playing board games, and raising her daughter. Jessica has two dogs, seven cats, two rabbits, and too many fish to count. She shares her home with her husband Daniel and daughter Kira.

Jess G
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Jess G

Jessica has been working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2008.

She loves how Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital's staff takes the extra time to help educate their clients so that they can make informed decisions on their pet’s health and wellness. 

In her spare time, Jess enjoys house renovation projects, DIY and craft projects, landscaping, and spending time outdoors. Jessica and her daughter share their home with many pets. 

Sara F.
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Sara has been working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2004. She began her career in the animal care industry in 2000 after graduating from Delhi College, and has been happily working in the field ever since.

Sara enjoys working at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital because each employee is fully dedicated to helping animals, and she loves that her co-workers feel like a second family.

In her free time, Sara enjoys reading, cross-stitching, and being with her family, especially her husband and son.

The Animal Care Staff

Amber Briggs
Animal Care Assistant

Amber Briggs, Animal Care Assistant at Canandaigua Animal Hospital, was born in Canandaigua, NY and was raised in Palmyra, NY. Amber has worked in the animal care industry for four years, and has experience as a dog handler as well as a client service representative. Working at Canandaigua Animal Hospital has allowed Amber to be part of a team that fuels her passion for helping animals in need. 

In her spare time, Amber enjoys hiking, kayaking, and spending time with her two dogs.

Becky D.
Animal Care Assistant

Becky D.

Becky has been working in the animal care industry for more than twenty years. She has been an Animal Care Assistant at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2006. 

Becky holds an associate’s degree in National Resource Conservation, with a concentration in wildlife. She is also certified in rabbit showmanship, as well as dog training and behavior. 

In her free time, Becky enjoys baking, farming, and being outdoors with her family and dogs. She shares her home with her husband and son, as well as their four dogs, three cats, one tortoise, and many farm chickens.

Derrick M.
Animal Care Assistant

Originally from Yates County, NY, Derrick has been an Animal Care Assistant at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2010.

His favorite part of working at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital is working with his "second family". Derrick has one dog, Penelope. 

Sarah Antes
Animal Care Assistant

Sarah Antes

Sarah Antes began working at CVH in 2017 as a full-time Animal Care Assistant. She is originally from Gillett, PA, and received her bachelor’s degree from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania in Outdoor Recreation Leadership. She is currently studying at Medaille College for her Masters in Organizational Leadership.  

Sarah likes working at CVH because each and every day is different, and there is always an opportunity to learn something new.  

In her spare time, Sarah loves camping, traveling, and attending concerts with her boyfriend Matt. Sarah is also a Relay for Life team captain and a huge Penn State football fan. She shares her home with her two cats, Penguin and Bandit.

Client Service Representative

Born in Utica, NY, Cassandra is a client service representative here at Canandaigua Animal hospital. Cassandra is excited to work for Canandaigua Animal Hospital because it allows her to work with people who share her passion for providing compassionate care to animals.

In her free time, Cassandra enjoys painting and spending time with her family, especially with her three children.

Shayla McClung
Client Service Representative

Shayla was born and raised right here in Canandaigua, New York. She has been involved in the animal-related field for six years. Shayla received a 2-year completion certificate from the Finger Lakes Technical Center in Animal Science.

Shayla is an animal person through and through. She has four dogs, four horses, three cats, four rabbits, beef cattle and chickens. In her free time she enjoys riding horses, fostering puppies, hiking and working with race horses. 

Sharon Clark
Client Services Supervisor

Sharon Clark

Sharon Clark is our Client Services Supervisor, and has been a member of the Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital team since 2006. She was born in Clifton Springs and grew up in Seneca Castle, NY.

Sharon enjoys meeting the clients and pets that come into the hospital each day, and loves the passion that the entire team here at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital shows towards patients and clients on a daily basis. 

Sharon’s family lives and works on a small farm filled with animals. These animals include: twelve goats, twelve chickens, four ducks, two cats, one dog, and two horses. In her free time, she enjoys camping, hiking, and spending time with her husband of 28 years. Sharon also enjoys spending time with her three sons, her daughter-in-law, and her grandchildren.

Tracey S.
Client Service Representative

Tracey was raised in Lyndonville, a rural farming community. She began her career in the animal care field in 2015, and joined Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital the same year. She enjoys being part of a team of dedicated and caring professionals who love what they do for patients and clients.

In her free time, Tracey enjoys being outdoors and active. She shares her home with two rescue dogs and takes care of a few feral cats
