Our Veterinarians

Steven Smith, DVM
Hospital Director

Steven Smith

Dr. Steven Smith is the hospital director of Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Smith joined the Canandaigua medical team in 2008. He previously practiced medicine as an associate veterinarian at the Animal Hospital of Pittsford from 2005 to 2008.

A native of Pittsburgh, Dr. Smith attended Hobart College and received his Bachelor's Degree in Biology in 1998. He continued his education at the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine and he was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. Surgery, dentistry, wellness and preventive medicine are among his many professional interests.

Dr. Smith and his wife, Alexis, who is also a veterinarian, have four children, Paige, Maddox, Heidi and Nola. Their four-legged family members include two dogs, Bodie and Gusten and a cat named George W. In his spare time, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with family and friends, working out, training his dogs and hunting.

Amanda Jarnot, BSc/BVMS

Amanda Jarnot

Dr. Amanda Jarnot (formerly Dr. James) is an associate veterinarian at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital. Originally from Cicero, NY, she graduated from Murdoch University in Perth, Australia with her BSc/BVMS in 2016.

Prior to attending veterinary school, Dr. James graduated from Medaille College with a BD in veterinary technology in 2011. Her professional interests include surgery and small animal medicine.

In her free time, she enjoys CrossFit and spending time with her dog. Dr. James is also passionate about football, as she was raised a New England Patriots fan. 

Naomi Salama, DVM

Naomi Salama

Dr. Naomi Salama is an associate veterinarian at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital. Before joining the Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital staff, she practiced medicine at Colonial Veterinary Hospital and Ocean State Veterinary Specialists.

A native of Pittsburgh, Dr. Salama attended the University of Rochester where she majored in Evolution and Ecology. She then went on to Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. Dr. Salama then completed a rotating internship at Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Services. Her professional interest is surgery.

Dr. Salama and her wife, Emma, share their home with Adzuki, an adventurous orange tabby; Baker, a timid long-haired indoor cat; Crook, an adorable and badly-behaved Blue Tick Hound mix; and Barley, a sweet and loving collie mix. In her free time, Dr. Salama enjoys singing, cello, archery, reading, and tending to her chickens and gardens. 

Allison Tuchrello, DVM

Allison Tuchrello

Tuchrello grew up in Livonia, NY. She attended SUNY Geneseo, where she graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University and was named valedictorian of her graduating class.

While in veterinary school, she completed externships at Perry Veterinary Clinic, People for Animals and Cornell University Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Tuchrello’s professional interests include dentistry and surgery.

She enjoys horseback riding, boating on the Finger Lakes, running and playing video games in her free time.


 

Our Veterinary Technicians

Michael Taylor
Licensed Veterinary Technician & Animal Care Assistant Supervisor

Michael Taylor

Michael is the supervisor of the Licensed Veterinary Technicians and the Animal Care Assistants at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital, where he’s worked since 2008. Before he began his career in the animal-care industry, he received his associate’s degree in veterinary technology from SUNY Alfred State College.

He enjoys working at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital because of the family-oriented and professional atmosphere, as well as the vast knowledge and experience all of the employees have to offer.

Michael has three dogs and three cats. In his free time, he enjoys hiking with his dogs, hunting, fishing, working on cars, and DIY projects. One day he aspires to own a 56' or 57' Chevy Belair and/or a 67' Pontiac. 

Cassandra P.
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Cassandra P.

Cassandra is a Licensed Veterinary Technician and certified dental technician at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital, where she has worked since 2008. Cassandra was born in San Diego, and grew up in Livonia, NY.

She enjoys working at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital because she enjoys building relationships with clients and their pets, and advocating for the needs of companion animals. 

In free time, Cassadnra enjoys archery, canning gardening, hunting, and attending her son's sporting events. Cassandra shares her home with her husband, son, two dogs, four cats, and one beta fish. 

Jessica Casellas
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Jessica grew up in Canandaigua and has been working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2003.

Jessica is the leader of the feral cat program at CVH, and loves that she can follow her dream of helping feral cats through this position. She also greatly enjoys working Urgent care on Sundays, and loves the kind-heartened clients and the dedicated staff at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital.

Jessica is a member of the New York State Association of Veterinary Technicians and the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America, as well as a Feral Cat Liaison. In her free time, she enjoys walking dogs, reading, playing board games, and raising her daughter. Jessica has two dogs, six cats, and too many fish to count. She shares her home with her husband, Daniel, daughter, Kira, and three stepsons. 

Jess
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Jessica has been working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2008 and has been working in the animal care industry for eleven years. 

She loves how the Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital staff takes the extra time to help educate their clients so that they can make more informed decisions on their pet’s health and wellness.

In her spare time she enjoys house renovations projects, DIY projects, landscaping and spending time outdoors. Jessica shares her home with multiple pets. 

Sara F.
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Sara has been working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2004. She graduated from Delhi College before beginning her career in the animal care industry in 2000.

She enjoys working at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital because all of the employees are dedicated to helping animals, and the staff is like a "second family".

Sara spends her free time with family, reading, and cross-stitching, as well as playing with her son. Sara shares her home with her husband, Shane, her son, Gabriel, and their house pets.

Animal Care Assistant

Becky D.

Becky has been working in the animal-care industry for more than 16 years. She has been an Animal Care Assistant at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2006.

She has an associate’s degree in Natural Resource Conservation with a concentration in wildlife. She is also certified in rabbit showmanship, as well as dog training and behavior.

In her free time she enjoys gardening, baking, and being outdoors with her family and dogs. Becky  shares her home with her husband, son, four dogs (Dilly Bean, Mossberg, Maizy, and Garner), three cats (KiKi, Bijou, and Cue-P), a tiger ball python (Girth), a crested gecko, an African Sulcata tortoise (Mort the Tort), and farm chickens. 

Derrick M.
Animal Care Assistant

Originally from Yates County, NY, Derrick has been an Animal Care Assistant at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2010.

His favorite part of working at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital is working with his "second family". Derrick has one dog, Penelope. 

Sarah Antes
Animal Care Assistant

Sarah Antes

Sarah Antes began working at CVH in 2017 as a full-time Animal Care Assistant. She is originally from Gillett, PA, and received her bachelor’s degree from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania in Outdoor Recreation Leadership. She is currently studying at Medaille College for her Masters in Organizational Leadership.  

Sarah likes working at CVH because each and every day is different, and there is always an opportunity to learn something new.  

In her spare time, Sarah loves camping, traveling, and attending concerts with her boyfriend Matt. Sarah is also a Relay for Life team captain and a huge Penn State football fan. She shares her home with her two cats, Penguin and Bandit.

Heather Jansen
Client Service Representative

Heather Jansen has worked at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since May of 2017. She has 5 years of experience in the animal care industry. She was born here in Canandaigua but grew up in Rushville, New York.

Heather enjoys building relationships with clients and having the opportunity to learn something new each day. 

Heather and her husband, Jacob, have a German Shepherd (Maverick), a red heeler mix (Merlot), a cat (Poncho), horses, ducks and chickens. She is an outdoors enthusiast who enjoys, kayaking, hiking, and gardening. In her free time, Heather volunteers at the therapeutic horseback riding center.

Shayla McClung
Client Service Representative

Shayla was born and raised right here in Canandaigua, New York. She has been involved in the animal-related field for six years. Shayla received a 2-year completion certificate from the Finger Lakes Technical Center in Animal Science.

Shayla is an animal person through and through. She has four dogs, four horses, three cats, four rabbits, beef cattle and chickens. In her free time she enjoys riding horses, fostering puppies, hiking and working with race horses. 

Sharon Clark
Client Services Supervisor

Sharon Clark

Sharon Clark is the client services supervisor at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital. Sharon was born in Clifton Springs, and grew up in Seneca Castle, NY. 

She joined the hospital staff in 2006 and loves meeting the clients and pets that come into the hospital each day. She loves the passion the rest of the team shows towards patient and clients on a daily basis. 

Sharon's family lives and works on a small farm filled with animals, including twelve goats, a dozen chickens, four ducks, two cats, a dog and two horses. When she does have spare time, she enjoys going camping, hiking, and spending time with her husband(of 27 years!), three sons, wonderful daughter in law, and grandkids. 

Tracey S.
Client Service Representative

Tracey was born and raised in Lyndonville, a rural farming community. She has been working at CVH and in the animal care field for 4 years. She enjoys being part of a team of dedicated and caring professionals who love what they do for patients and clients.

In her free time, Tracey volunteers with Greyhound Adoption of Greater Rochester and enjoys being outdoors and active. She shares her home with two greyhound dogs and takes care of a few feral cats.
