Our Veterinarians

Steven Smith, DVM
Hospital Director

Steven Smith

Dr. Steven Smith is the hospital director of Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Smith joined the Canandaigua medical team in 2008. He previously practiced medicine as an associate veterinarian at the Animal Hospital of Pittsford from 2005 to 2008.

A native of Pittsburgh, Dr. Smith attended Hobart College and received his Bachelor's Degree in Biology in 1998. He continued his education at the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine and he was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. Surgery, dentistry, wellness and preventive medicine are among his many professional interests.

Dr. Smith and his wife, Alexis, who is also a veterinarian, have four children, Paige, Maddox, Heidi and Nola. Their four-legged family members include two dogs, Bodie and Gusten and a cat named George W. In his spare time, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with family and friends, working out, training his dogs and hunting.

Naomi Salama, DVM

Naomi Salama

Dr. Naomi Salama is an associate veterinarian at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital. Before joining the Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital staff, she practiced medicine at Colonial Veterinary Hospital and Ocean State Veterinary Specialists.

A native of Pittsburgh, Dr. Salama attended the University of Rochester where she majored in Evolution and Ecology. She then went on to Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. Dr. Salama then completed a rotating internship at Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Services. Her professional interest is surgery.

Dr. Salama and her wife, Emma, share their home with Adzuki, an adventurous orange tabby; Annie, a fat and sassy tortie; Crook, an adorable and badly-behaved Blue Tick Hound mix; and Barley, a sweet and loving collie mix. In her free time, Dr. Salama enjoys singing, cello, rugby, knitting and homesteading (raising chickens and growing vegetables).

Amanda James, BSc/BVMS

Amanda James

Dr. Amanda James is an associate veterinarian at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital. She graduated from Murdoch Univeristy in Perth, Australia with her BSc/BVMS.

Prior to attending veterinary school, Dr. James graduated from Medaille College with a degree in veterinary technology. Her professional interests include surgery and small animal medicine.

In her free time, she enjoys crossfit and spending time with her dog, Lexi. Dr. James is also passionate about football, as she was raised a New England Patriots fan.

Michael T.
Licensed Veterinary Technician & Animal Care Assistant Supervisor

Michael T.

Michael is the supervisor of the Licensed Veterinary Technicians and the Animal Care Assistants at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital, where he’s worked since 2008. Before he began his career in the animal-care industry, he received his associate’s degree in veterinary technology from SUNY Alfred State College.

He enjoys working at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital because of the family oriented and professional atmosphere, as well as the vast knowledge and experience all of the employees have to offer.

Michael has two dogs named Chevy and Stella, and four cats named Hugs, Oliver, Booker, and Deelya. 

Jessica C.
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Jessica grew up in Canandaigua and has been working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2003.

She loves that she can follow her dream of helping feral cats through her Trap and Release (TNR) program. She also loves the kind hearted clients and the dedicated staff at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital.

Jessica is a member of the New York State Association of Veterinary Technicians and the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America, as well as a Feral Cat Liaison. In her free time she enjoys, reading, photography and raising her daughter. Jessica has a Puggle named Polly, a Shihtzu named Hobo, six cats named Fiona, Splinter, Butterscotch, Emerson, Desi and Silver; and an Oscar fish named Fireball

Sara F.
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Sara has been working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2004. She graduated from Delhi College before beginning her career in the animal-care industry.

She enjoys working at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital because all of the employees are dedicated to helping animals.

Sara spends her free time with family, reading, and cross stitching. She shares her home with two cats, Shadow and Paley.

Jessica G.
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Jessica has been working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2008 and she has been working in the animal-care industry for eight years.

She loves how the Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital staff takes the extra time to help educate their clients so that they can make more informed decisions on their pet’s health and wellness.

In her spare time she enjoys house renovations projects, landscaping and spending time outdoors. Jessica shares her home with a cat named Leelah, two parakeets named Pete and Penelope and a fish tank full of fish. 

Cassandra P.
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Cassandra is a Licensed Veterinary Technician at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital, where she has worked since 2008. She is also a certified dental technician.

She enjoys working at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital because it provides convenient hours for clients and staff, is a full-service hospital and the patients’ comfort is a top priority.

She enjoys playing outside with her family, archery, canning and gardening in her free time. Cassandra shares her home with her husband, son, one dog named Nova, and three cats named Baby, Little One and Hiccup.

Animal Care Assistant

Becky D.

Becky has been working in the animal-care industry for more than 16 years. She has been an Animal Care Assistant at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2006.

She has an associate’s degree in Natural Resource Conservation with a concentration in wildlife. She is also certified in rabbit showmanship, as well as dog training and behavior.

In her free time she enjoys gardening, baking, and being outdoors with her family and dogs. Becky  shares her home with her husband, son, four dogs (Dilly Bean, Mossberg, Maizy, and Garner), three cats (KiKi, Bijou, and Cue-P), a tiger ball python (Girth), a crested gecko, an African Sulcata tortoise (Mort the Tort), and farm chickens. 

Derrick M.
Animal Care Assistant

Originally from Yates County, Derrick has been an Animal Care Assistant at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2010. He’s worked in the animal-care industry for six years.

His favorite part of working at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital is working with his second family.

Danielle S.
Animal Care Assistant

Danielle grew up in Waterloo, NY and has been working in the animal-care industry for five years; three years with large animals and nearly two years with small animals. She is currently an Animal Care Assistant at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital.

In her spare time she loves spending time with her family, riding horses and reading. Danielle shares her home with her son, Jace, and their dog, Cyrus.

Siarra W.
Animal Care Assistant

Siarra was born in Georgia, but grew up in Shortsville, NY. She is new to the animal-care industry, having just started working as an Animal Care Assistant at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital in September 2015.

Siarra loves all kinds of art, like making  jewelry, painting, and drawing. She shares her home with six dogs (SID, Jimmy, Joey, Ryain, Jasper, Duke), two rats (Pinky and Jane), and a cat (Kitty.)

Sharon Clark
Client Services Supervisor

Sharon Clark

Sharon Clark is the client services supervisor at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2006 and loves meeting the clients and pets that come into the hospital each day. Sharon spends her free time with her husband and children and their animals. Her family lives and works on a small farm filled with animals, including six goats, four cats, a dog and three horses. When she does have spare time, she enjoys going camping and hiking and riding her horses.

Maureen M.
Client Service Representative

Maureen was born and raised in Syracuse, N.Y. She is brand new to Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital and the animal-care industry.  So far her favorite part of her job is greeting the pets and their owners.

Maureen has a bachelor’s degree in Music. She shares her home with her husband, two children, and their Yorkshire terrier named Byron. In her free time she like to enter her dog in costume contests, travel and spend time with her family.

Staci M.
Client Service Representative

Staci has been working as a Client Service Representative at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since February 2015, but has been employed in the animal-care industry for more than two years.

She enjoys providing medical care to animals and helping owners help their pets. Staci has two cats, Cacious and Neo.

Tracey S.
Client Service Representative

Tracey was born and raised in Lyndonville, a rural farming community. She is brand new to Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital and the animal-care industry. She enjoys being part of a team of dedicated and caring professionals who love what they do for patients and clients.

In her free time she volunteers with Greyhound Adoption of Greater Rochester and enjoys being outdoors and active. Tracey shares her home with two greyhound dogs, Shannon and Bre.
